Thoughts on Yoga

When we are keen, desirous, interested in something/somebody, it can be called as attachment. Exact definition as Patanjali states attachment is, “the bonding between man and matter”. So you want to do something, eh? The first step is to be attached. I know this is surprising, contradictory to many other teachers. Well if you are not attached, how can you even start of something? If everything becomes aloof to you, then nothing interests you.  So Patanjali, states, starting with attachment is good.

Once you are attached, next comes the toughest part: to execute your idea. (I’m talking more in terms of a work life here, but this can definitely be extended to personal life, to be a better friend, a father, son….) To execute your idea, you need to be in a state of non-attachment. Defining non-attachment is like walking on a thin line. Non-Attachment is when one is not bound to the duties, and at the same time, not shrugging away from the responsibility of performing the duties. This is a state, where one must realize not to look at the fruit, even before the hard work is done, and at the same time, not to miss the focal point of the task (the fruit), one sets out to do.         –Phillip Cullinan, Wellness Center yoga instructor

Happy Holidays!

Annie Ross House

We certainly have much to be thankful for this holiday season.

We’re settling into our new location at 5111 SE Lake Rd. It’s been quite a journey and many thanks go out to my staff and patients who supported us and lent us a word of encouragement.

Our OPEN HOUSE gala was a huge success. Many of you generously donated towards the Annie Ross House and NW Housing Alternatives. Thank You!!  We raised $1000.00 to help the homeless families of Clackamas County. In the picture some of the staff at NW Housing Alternatives expressed their gratitude for the donations made. It goes without saying that in the current economic times it can be hard. Safe housing and a warm meal are basic needs that all, especially children deserve. We’re glad to support the good work that the folks at NW Housing Alternatives and Annie Ross House are doing. For more information on how you might help you can go to their website, www.nwhousing.org or you can call them at 503.654.1007. We now have a link to their site on our new and improved website that makes it easy to make a donation. HAPPY HOLIDAYS and I hope we’ll see you soon at either the studio or clinic.
